Punjab Speaker tells MLA Bains to leave House

There was high drama at the Punjab Assembly session here on Friday as the Speaker asked Independent MLA Simarjit Singh Bains to leave the House.

The second day of the Punjab assembly session was a stormy affair, with two Independent legislators from Ludhiana — Balwinder Singh Bains and his brother Simarjeet Singh Bains — being forcibly removed from the House with the help of the watch and ward staff on Friday.

This is the first time in over four years of the present term of the Akali-BJP government that such a sight has been witnessed in the House. In another rare instance, Opposition MLAs were seen unsuccessfully jostling with the watch and ward staff to rise up to the speaker’s seat.

If the pandemonium was not enough, the Vidhan Sabha authorities were in for embarrassment when the microphone developed a snag as soon as the leader of the House, chief minister (CM) Parkash Singh Badal, stood up to speak. It led to adjournment for about an hour and a half.
