The Mohali administration is all set to check illegal travel agents operating in various parts of the district.
Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said he would depute his staff to tackle this unlawful activity from tomorrow.
The step has been taken following a state-wise list (which is claimed to be released by the Ministry of External Affairs) of illegal travel agents, being operational across the country.
As per the list, Punjab has a total of 76 illegal travel agents, of which 31 wre in Mohali. The figure of such agents in Chandigarh was 22. The list also shows that Punjab comes on the third spot after Maharashtra (86), and Delhi (85).
Dayalan claimed that the administration has not get any such list so far. “I only came to know about it through some queries being made by a section of media,” said the Deputy Commissioner . He said there were around 310 registered travel agents with the local administration.
