Furious at their daughter having recently married against their wishes, a Dalit family of Dhalla village, 35 km from here, allegedly killed three members of the groom’s family at nearby Naushehra village on Monday night.
The deceased are Joginder Singh, a farmer, 65; son Pawandip, 19; and daughter Prabhjit, 18. Harmanjit, the elder son who had married their daughter, though, escaped unhurt as apprehending the attack he had gone to his sister’s place at Thathi Sohal village.
The accused are Beera Singh; his three sons, Vardip, Arshdip and Sukh; their three relatives, Happy, Govinda and Manny; besides five unidentified men. All accused are at large.
Harmanjit had married Beera’s daughter around a month ago. The family had since been threatening him and he had sounded the police. After the murders, he alleged that the police had failed to act despite the warning.
The Sarai Amanat Khan police have registered a case under Sections 302, 452, 34, 148 and 149 of the IPC.
