Two young drug addicts allegedly committed suicide by hanging themselves from a tree in the grain market of Bihla village of the district on Wednesday night.
The deceased have been identified as Jaswinder Singh (21) and Gurkirat Singh (25).
The families of the deceased confirmed that both of them were addicts. However, the police on the basis of a preliminary probe said the youths were under depression as they had shunned drugs.
As per information, some residents went to the village grain market on Thursday morning and found the bodies hanging from a tree. They immediately informed the families of the deceased, who in turn called the Tallewal police.
“Gurkirat was an addict for quite some time now, but I am not aware of the drugs he was taking. Last night, he was fine when left the house, but he consumed liquor and took drugs at the grain market,” said Baldev Singh, father of Gurkirat.
Baldev further alleged that he even took a loan from some private money lender for the rehabilitation of his son, but failed to get him treated.
