The police have arrested two persons for allegedly raping a 19-year-old woman in the Patiala district of Punjab. The police have got the medical examination of the rape survivor conducted and initiated further probe.In her complaint to the police the survivor, who is a married woman, had said that her husband Sonu who lives in Patiala had forcibly took her towards the bus stop of Jaswal village and dropped her there in order to abandon her. She said her husband did this to her after they had a tiff.As she moved towards Bhakhra canal, a bike-borne man stopped to ask her where she was going. She told the police that she was completely disturbed and broke down following which the accused offered help and promised to drop her to her relatives’ house.
“The accused have been identified as Yadavinder Sharma and Manpreet Singh of Bhadson area. As per complaint, the accused Yadavinder after giving lift to the rape survivor on his bike started talking to her and then promised that he would marry her. He then allegedly took the woman to a room in Mallowal village where Yadavinder’s friend Manpreet also reached. The rape survivor had alleged that both the accused tortured her physically and raped her in turn for the whole intervening night of Saturday and Sunday,” said the investigation officer in the case.He added, “The medical examination of the woman had been conducted and the reports are awaited. The accused were arrested within hours of the crime they allegedly committed. Both the accused work as labourers and claimed they did not know the woman but admitted their crime. The husband of the rape survivor has also been informed about the incident.”
