Yoga Day: Mann Dal holds parellel event Gatka Day
Shiromani Akali Dal(Amritsar) chief Simranjit Singh Mann, who had earlier asked Sikhs to oppose the International Yoga Day, today organized Gatka competition near Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib.
Sikh leader Mann said though Prime Minister Narendra Modi today participated in International Yoga Day function in Chandigarh but it was against ‘Sikhism’ to practice yoga . He said ‘Gatka’ was started to train people in self-defence and it makes our mind sound and strong and we should practice Gatka on a regular basis. He asked Sikh youth to observe Gatka Day on every June 21. Mann congratulated people on birth anniversary of Sikh master Guru Hargobind ji today.
Mann honoured the participants of Gatka competition with Rs 5,100 cash prize . On this occasion SAD(A) senior leaders Jaskaran Singh Kahan Singh Wala, Emann Singh Mann, Iqbal Singh Mann was also present.
On the call given by Shiromani Akali Dal (A) president Simranjit Singh Mann, party activists on Tuesday performed gatka at Guru Nanak Mission Chowk Jalandhar to counter the International Yoga Day. Around 50 young Nihangs participated in the event. The party workers said gatka was meant for self-defence and should be promoted.
