Police officials in Punjab’s Mansa district detained a resident of Fatehabad in Haryana and his driver with Rs 1 crore cash in denominations of the now invalid – Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 – currency notes.
The money was being carried in an SUV and the occupants failed to provide details about its source. The police have informed Income Tax authorities and made a diary entry. The IT authorities are further investigating the case and questioning the two men.
Sardulgarh DSP Narinder Singh said the money was being taken from Bathinda to Fatehabad in Haryana. The DSP said, Sandeep, who is a commission agent in Fatehabad, along with his driver was allegedly taking the cash to the destination.
The police called the Income Tax department officials and handed over the cash to them for further investigation. “The matter will now be looked into by the Income Tax department,” the DSP said.
