A 25-year-old constable who was part of Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s security team was shot dead at a Mohali nightclub in the early hours of Sunday, police said.
Police have identified the suspect in the case only as Sahil, owner of a nightclub in Chandigarh’s Sector 9, and the victim as Sukhwinder Kumar.
Mohali Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramandeep Singh said both the suspect and the victim came to the Phase 11 nightclub, called ‘Walking Street’, with their friends. “The duo had a tiff over a petty issue,” the officer said.
The suspect is believed to have shot the victim Sukhwinder thrice at 3.15 am. One bullet hit him squarely in the chest. He was taken to Mohali’s Ivy Hospital, where doctors declared that he was brought dead.
The suspect, Sahil, fled the scene of shooting soon after the incident. Police have booked him and his unidentified friends for murder as well as under relevant sections of the Arms Act.
