The woman murdered along with her husband at Zira in Ferozepur district on Friday has been identified as Manjit Kaur, who was the prime accused-turned-approver in the Moga sex scandal involving police personnel and politicians.Sources privy to the investigation said Prabhdeep, alias Manjit Kaur, was one of the main accused who later turned approver in the 2007 Moga sex scam in which several police officers and politicians were allegedly involved.After getting bail in 2013, Manjit changed her name to Prabhdeep Kaur and went back to her husband, who belonged to Pandori Khatiran village. They had married in 2000, but lived separately for a few years after the scam was unearthed.Sources said the woman, in connivance with police officers and political bigwigs, allegedly extorted money from businessman and other people by threatening to frame them in sexual abuse cases.The Punjab and Haryana High Court had directed the CBI to probe the matter. The investigating agency indicted nine persons, including the son of a former Akali minister, then Moga SSP, then SP (Headquarters), then DSP and then SHO. Later, the CBI arrested most of the accused, but they got bail. The trial is still in progress.
