Ajnala SHO behind bars for extortion

The rural police have arrested the SHO of Ajnala police station for allegedly extorting money from a chemist shop owner, Deepak Kumar. Deepak has already been arrested for allegedly possessing intoxicants and the SHO was reportedly threatening to implicate his brother in the case.The accused has been identified as Sub-Inspector Manjinder Singh. Initially, he fled away after the registration of the case, but was later caught.SSP Parampal Singh confirmed the development.According to information, the SHO had arrested Deepak Kumar a few days ago after conducting a raid at his shop. Later, he threatened Deepak to implicate his brother Neeraj in the case and demanded money. The family initially gave Rs 1 lakh to him. Later, he sought Rs 10 lakh. The family somehow collected Rs 6 lakh and gave it to SI Manjinder Singh.As he demanded Rs 3 lakh more, the family appeared before the SSP and narrated its woes. Taking a serious note of this, he asked SP (Investigations) Harpal Singh to probe the case. Following preliminary probe, the police registered a case against him.
