Lecturer suspended, booked for molestation

Secretary, Education, Krishan Kumar has suspended Harkirat Singh, a lecturer posted at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) here, on the charge of molesting a second-year girl student. He has been directed to report to the District Education Officer (DEO, Secondary), Tarn Taran.
The police have registered a case against the lecturer under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC on the student’s complaint.
The student said Harkirat called her up to meet him near Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib and made her accompany him in a car. She said he then took her to a room in a field near Kharar. She alleged that he tried to rape her, but she saved herself and flee.Sources said the girl made a call to her fellow student. The latter brought her back, following which she lodged the complaint with the DIET Principal.
Paramjit Kaur Sidhu, DEO, said she informed the SCERT Director and the Secretary, Education, when the matter came to her notice.Rupinder Singh, SHO, said raids were being conducted to arrest Harkirat. — OC
