Honour Killing : Three members of family shot dead

In a suspected case of honour killing because of an inter-caste marriage, three members of a family were shot dead and two injured in ward number 9 of Kharkhoda in Sonepat district of Haryana on Friday night. In the firing incident which took place at around 10.30 pm on Friday night, girl’s husband (Pradeep), father-in-law (Suresh) and mother-in-law (Sunita) were killed. Whereas the girl (Sushila) and her brother-in-law (Suraj) sustained bullet injuries and have been admitted to PGI Rohtak. Injured have been reported out of danger.
SHO of police station Kharkhoda, Inspector Rajpal informed, “We are suspecting it an honour killing case since the girl is from Jat family and the boy from Dhanak (scheduled caste) family. They had performed love marriage around three years back and girl’s family was against it.” The SHO told that a case has been registered for murder, attempt to murder and under the Arms Act as well as SC/ST Act. Investigation is on and the police are trying to arrest the accused.

Rajpal further informed that it was around 10.15 pm on Friday that girl’s elder brother Manu, against whom there are already 16-17 criminal cases registered, came to Kharkhoda in a Duster car and as soon as the family members opened the door, he started firing upon them. Thereafter, Manu fled from the scene of crime.The SHO told that the injured girl – Sushila- is nine months pregnant. Her husband, and mother-in-law died on the spot. Whereas, the father-in-law succumbed to his injuries after reaching the hospital. Deceased’s bodies have been handed over to the family members after the post mortem, informed the police.
