Ban liquor near Delhi gurdwaras first: Chhotepur to Kejriwal

Sacked state convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Sucha Singh Chhotepur on Saturday demanded that the party’s national convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal should ban the sale and consumption of liquor, meat and tobacco within 2km radius of Delhi’s historical gurdwaras.

In a statement, he said Kejriwal had promised to ban all these items in the walled city of Amritsar if voted to power in Punjab. “Why should he not start at the place where he is already in power? We demand that liquor, meat and tobacco be banned around Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, Rakab Ganj Gurdwara and Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib,” he said. A similar demand was made by SGPC member Hardeep Singh on Friday.

Former AAP state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur today addressed an impressive gathering here as part of his Parivartan Yatra. He said Arvind Kejriwal had ditched Punjab but people were not going to fall prey to his political aspirations.
“We have decided to show these outsiders that Punjabis can’t be taken for a ride. I had handed over Rs80 lakh to the party high command in the last few months, including Rs22 lakh collected by state party volunteers, but we have not received any information about this money so far,” he claimed.
Chhotepur said he had worked tirelessly for establishing AAP, but the party leadership did not want Punjabis to lead the show.
