Punjab Poll circus 2017 : Navjot Sidhu vs New Party

Politics is now serious business for Punjab comedians.
Of the three main players in the state elections early next year, two, Bhagwant Mann and Gurpreet Ghuggi of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), have been finalists in a television show, The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, and one, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, has been the show’s judge.
AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal’s wants Punjabis to laugh all the way to the ballot. But the Guru of Comedy just bowled a googly to the AAP by cobbling up a fourth front, the Awaaz-e-Punjab, last week.

As Arvind Kejriwal takes a train to Punjab, Navjot Singh Sidhu will formally announce a new political front, the Awaaz-e-Punjab, today.

The cricketer-turned-politician decided to go solo after his talks with the Delhi chief minister to join hands for the Punjab elections disintegrated and Mr Sidhu’s new outfit is now seen as a direct threat to Mr Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party in the state.

Sidhu has only five months to set up his front and get it ready for the elections early next year – political observers say that is not enough time to make a serious impact, but he could definitely cut into the votes of the Aam Aadmi Party or AAP, with both making a debut and pitching a change in Punjab, ruled so far either by the Congress or the Akali Dal.
