New Delhi: In a major embarrassment for the government, Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar, Monday, saluted all the freedom fighters and said former PM Jawaharlal Nehru and ex-home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose were hanged.

While addressing BJP supporters in Madhya Pradesh, Javadekar said, “We salute freedom fighters like Netaji, Sardar Patel, Jawahar Lal Nehru, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru who were hanged.”

The minister’s tribute came during the Tiranga Yatra launched to mark India’s 70th Independence Day. Several BJP leaders and lawmakers, carrying the Tricolour, or the Tiranga, have fanned out across the country in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to spread awareness about India’s freedom struggle and inculcate a feeling of nationalism.
