CBI clears Ex-mayor of murder charge

Patiala: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has given a clean chit to former mayor of Patiala Jaspal Singh Pardhan who was booked for murder of a woman in February 2013. After the incident, Pardhan, who belonged to SAD (Badal), was asked to resign as the mayor by his party.
Pardhan along with two others was booked for the murder of Parampreet Kaur, 28, on the basis of the police complaint lodged by her father Amarjit Singh.
Parampreet’s husband Harpreet Singh and mother-in-law Paramjit Kaur, both residents of Kashmiri Toba locality of Patiala, were also booked in the case. She was found dead on February 23, 2013.
The medical report disclosed that the deceased died due to “ligature strangulation” but remianed silent on whether the strangulation was due to throttling or hanging. The CBI, in its report, said there were no finger prints on the throat and it was a case of suicide. CBI had earlier submitted a status report in the Punjab and Haryana high court in September 2015 stating that Pardhan was not the father-in-law of the deceased.
