Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Avtar Singh Makkar on Thursday announcing that he will file a case against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal, chief of AAP’s manifesto committee Kanwar Sandhu and party leader Ashish Khetan for hurting religious sentiments.

SGPC would move court against Delhi CM and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal and other leaders of AAP on the issue of use of picture of Sri Darbar Sahib with Party symbol Jharu on the cover of its youth manifesto as well as equating it with Guru Granth Sahib.

Makkar added that a case under Section 295 A of the Indian Penal Code will be filed within two days.

“By putting a picture of a broom along Darbar Sahib on its manifesto, the party has hurt sentiments of Sikhs. We outrightly reject the apology tendered by them as a crime of such nature is unpardonable,” Makkar said in a press conference in Ludhiana.

The development comes a day after Punjab Police registered an FIR against Khetan for hurting religious sentiments. Khetan, while campaigning for the upcoming assembly elections in Punjab, had reportedly compared the AAP manifesto with the Guru Granth Sahib.

An FIR was registered under Section 295 A for hurting religious sentiments at the Civil Lines police station in Amritsar.
Makkar will be filing a complaint in Amritsar.
