Two days after a 21-year-old woman alleged she was gangraped in a moving car, police arrested her along with her friend for making a false complaint to extort money, said police. The woman and her friend were arrested after police allowed a sting operation to be conducted to get to the truth. “This sting was allowed because the brother of one of the men accused of rape provided an audio clipping in which the woman’s friend is heard asking for Rs 15 lakh to settle the matter,” said a source.

Incidentally, police also found during the probe the woman lodged a gangrape complaint at Anand Vihar police station four months ago, but became hostile while recording her statement before a magistrate. The woman and her 24-year-old friend were held this time when they were returning after she changed her statement before a magistrate after taking money from the family members of the men she had accused of gangraping her.
